Der 4. Nordwest-Cup 2002 in Bad Zwischenahn
(ug). Mit Bad Zwischenahn fand der bislang in den Räumen des SK Union Oldenburg ausgetragene Nordwest-Cup in Zusammenarbeit mit dem SC Schwarzer Springer Bad Zwischenahn vom 7. bis 10. Februar eine neue Heimat. Letztgenannter Verein veranstaltet anlässlich seines 75jährigen Jubiläums über das gesamte Jahr verteilt verschiedene Aktivitäten. Die örtliche Nähe und ein attraktiver Preisfond führte auch zahlreiche Mitglieder des Landesschachbundes Bremen an das »Bad Zwischenahner Meer«.
Vor Ort fand sich ein mit drei Großmeistern und sieben Internationalen Meistern spielstarkes 122 Spieler umfassendes Teilnehmerfeld ein. Als Favorit trat Großmeister Klaus Bischoff (2558) an, und er wurde seiner Rolle bis zur letzten Runde gerecht. Jedoch musste er in der letzten Partie gegen Gerlef Meins (2393) ein nur leicht besseres Spiel gewinnen, was nicht gelang. Sehr zur Freude von GM Lev Gutman (2488), der bei seiner vierten Teilnahme am Nordwest-Cup nach einem zweiten Platz 1999 und einem vierten 2001 nun endlich gewonnen hat. Wie Gutman kam auch der Tabellenzweite Ionescu auf 6 Punkte aus 7 Partien.
Bester Bremer wurde mit Platz 3 Gerlef Meins. Der Werderaner war mit 5,5 Punkten nach 6 Runden alleiniger Tabellenführer und hatte beste Chancen auf den Turniersieg. Das oben schon angesprochene Remis gegen Bischoff, bei gleichzeitigen Siegen der ärgsten Verfolger, führte wegen einer schlechteren Feinwertung dann aber nur zum Bronzeplatz.In den Hauptpreisrängen platzierten sich auch Fish (Bremer SG / 5,5 Punkte / Platz 5) und Jugelt (Delmenhorst / 5 Punkte / Platz 8), der eine bessere Platzierung durch vier Remis in den letzten vier Partien ausließ.
Weiter unter erreichte Marc Schütte (Delmenhorst / 5 Punkte / Platz 19) einen Ratingpreis und der zehnjährige Neubremer Peter Lichmann (2141) zeigte mit 4 Punkten (Platz 32) gegen starke Gegnerschaft erneut sein enormes Potential.
